Miss South Africa speaks up

22 September 2002
The Nymandhlovu Cleft Stick and Messenger,
which usually has its tongue
firmly in its cheek, is pleased to adopt a far more sober and
serious tone
in recording that Miss South Africa, Vanessa Carrera, has got her
act
together and come out articulately and strongly against the
sentence
hanging - literally - over the head of Amina Lawal, the unwed
Nigerian
mother sentenced to death by stoning.
In an interview on SABC TV 22 September, she left no one in any
doubt as to
where she stands on the issue, though some observers may be a bit
sceptical
about the possibility of her mobilising other competitors to make
a public
platform out of the Miss World contest if she is indeed sent to
Nigeria to
take part.
Anyway, having taken a swipe at her a couple of days ago, the
NCS&M is
pleased to acknowledge that Ms Carrera comes across as a highly
intelligent
person who is not ignorant of the issue, and not scared to speak
up about
it.
Way to go, Vanessa. Nice tits, too.
