AGENDA FOR LUSAKA TALKS -continued
Date: 1999/06/25
The latest from our intrepid
reporters in Lusaka:
As feared, the DRC talks which were supposed to have started
yesterday have still not got under way properly due to
disagreements over the agenda.
This was only to be expected, as it was known that the Rwandans
were very unhappy at the choice of Chivas Regal. They arrived for
the talks anyway, but then dug in their heels and refused to
continue unless the organisers gave way to their preference for
Glenfiddich.
SABC reporter Maureen Mundea, speaking from Lusaka at 7.00 am SA
time, said that DRC and rebel representatives had managed to get
together for a round of cordial talks.
She did not specify which cordial.
It is also reported that recently appointed S A foreign affairs
minister Nkosazana Zuma, who is due to arrive at the talks today,
is being described as "the South African Madeleine
Albright."
Ms Albright has not yet been reached for comment, but it is
widely expected that she will be contacting her lawyers about the
matter
